The 108 steps
For the last 2000 years in India, every dance style and the whole tradition of dance masters has been founded on the 108 karana, the poses and steps essential for the construction of this mythic, symbolic, energetic and technical universe that is the base of yoga, the martial arts and all pre-expressive work of the actor. All the possibilities of movement for the human body within time and space are portrayed here, opening new possibilities of creation to artists. This work seeks to enrich our heritage of sacred arts and to provide a window, allowing occidental students to explore all the possibilities generated by the timeless dance of the god Siva.

Manuel du Bharata-Nâtyam
In Indian tradition, the creation of the universe is not relegated to the fossilised strata of an inaccessible past, nor limited to a big bang around 15 billion years ago... but an integral part of daily life, here and now. The Manuel Traditionnel du Bharata-Natyam , subtitled the cosmic dancer, is not only a manual of the Bharata-Natyam tradition, developing the movements of this pure dance form, the symbolic language of the hands (mudra), the theatre, music, the art of ornamentation, and the composition of a repertoire... but also shows the harmony between art & science, ancient astronomy and the rational development of these ideas by contemporary astrophysics, dance and the celestial movement. Traditional temple dancers were skilled in architecture, painting, music, poetry and dramatic art and regularly performed rituals of the planets such as the Navagraha. The author Katia Légeret (Manochhaya) was initiated into this practice in the Temples of South India.

Esthétique de la danse sacrée
For the last 20 years, Katia Légeret (Manochhaya) has been researching the nature of movement and creative gesture. The dancing body, being at the same time the instrument and the end, offers a privileged working ground for this poetic approach to the working of art. This work is more concerned with the inner reality of dance, rather than the external vision of spectacle and performance. The traditional form of this art is known as Sacred Dancing in India. Here the author's aim is to bring together the fundamental questions common to contemporary dance and to all arts, and to show the links between the creative urge and Indian tradition. This work also analyses the meeting of Indian dance with contemporary poetry and the musical work of Karlheinz Stockhausen
